72 & 73. Sydney Tower and Beelgara “The Vines” Chardonnay Semillon 2006

One day I went down to the mail box and in amongst the usual junk was a long envelope that looked like it contained a birthday card. When I opened it I was a bit confused.

It contained a voucher for a meal at the top of the Sydney Tower and I first I thought there must be some small print somewhere telling me that I would have to buy a timeshare or something first. However, it was actually a present from Matt, KP and Nick to say good luck with our move to Oz.

It took us a few weeks to get around to booking the meal but when we eventually got there it was well worth it. After a quick security check we got into the elevator to the buffet on level 2. It was one of those lift trips where your ears pop about 3 times on the way up.

When we got out the lift we were greeted by the most breathtaking view I’d seen in a long time. There was a 360 degree vista of the whole of Sydney. You could see all the way to the airport and the sea beyond, St Leonards where we live, Hornsby (almost) where I work and all the way to the horizon in the east. The food from the buffet was not bad but to be honest, they could have been serving up gruel and I’d not have noticed as my entire focus was on the view.

Our voucher also entitled us to a bottle of wine so Isla chose the Beelgara. It was very fresh and a perfect match for the Caesar salad and pasta dishes and we’d definitely order it again. After almost 2 hours we left the tower with full stomachs and full SD cards (I think I took about 50 photos!)
